Exploring Blockchain, Morocco, and Spiritual Heritage with Abdelfatah Mouttaqui
In our debut episode of Kianistan, we had the pleasure of speaking with Abdelfatah Mouttaqui—a blockchain strategist, spiritual thinker, and descendant of the revered Moroccan Sufi master Sidi Abdul Salam Al-Mshi. From Casablanca, Morocco, Abdelfatah joined us to explore the convergence of cutting-edge blockchain technology, African digital transformation, and timeless spiritual wisdom.
Blockchain: The Digital Ledger of the Future
Abdelfatah began his journey into blockchain through cybersecurity, eventually studying at Oxford University’s Business School. Since then, he’s written an ebook—The Simplified Blockchain—specifically designed to make blockchain accessible for non-technical audiences. His mission? To demystify this essential technology and highlight its potential to reshape everything from banking and law to governance and healthcare.
Blockchain, as Abdelfatah explained, is simply a digital ledger—much like the ledgers humanity has used for centuries. But its modern implementation allows for decentralization, security, and transparency. It’s being used not only in cryptocurrency but also in sectors like medical record-keeping, ID verification, and even passport control, as demonstrated by the UAE’s pioneering adoption of blockchain across government services.
Blockchain, AI, and Quantum Computing
One powerful insight Abdelfatah shared is the role blockchain plays as a foundation for artificial intelligence and quantum computing. Without blockchain-based smart contracts to govern how data and decisions are managed, these fast-moving technologies could spiral out of control. Blockchain provides a slow-release structure for rapid innovation.
Decentralization Beyond Finance
The conversation also turned toward the philosophy behind decentralization. Blockchain doesn’t only promise efficiency; it challenges centralized power structures in finance, education, and even politics. Abdelfatah emphasized the potential for decentralized constitutions and smart legal frameworks that eliminate corruption and promote equitable access to services.
Morocco’s Digital Shift
On the national level, Morocco is taking critical steps toward digitization, guided by strong leadership from King Mohammed VI and Minister of Digital Transition Dr. Ghita Mezzour. Abdelfatah commended Morocco’s strategic approach: establishing a digital ecosystem before launching blockchain use cases.
He also touched on future opportunities for Africa to leapfrog outdated systems by adopting digital currencies and blockchain governance—provided education and leadership rise to the occasion.
Spiritual Roots and Sufi Legacy
Beyond his technical acumen, Abdelfatah brings a profound spiritual awareness rooted in his lineage. As a descendant of Sidi Abdul Salam Al-Mshi and part of the Shadhili Sufi tradition, he’s deeply involved in promoting spiritual tourism across Morocco. He’s currently working on launching tours that explore the lives of Sufi saints in cities like Marrakesh and Fez—providing insight into Morocco’s uniquely preserved blend of tradition and modernity.
In his words, real change begins within. Blockchain, like all technologies, is a tool—it reflects the values of those who wield it. Without inner balance, no system—however decentralized or advanced—can lead to true progress.
Conclusion: Technology with Purpose
This episode was not just a conversation about tech trends—it was a call to action. A call to develop systems rooted in justice, compassion, and wisdom. A reminder that innovation must serve humanity—not the other way around.
We look forward to having Abdelfatah Mouttaqui back on the show soon to dive deeper into the intersections of blockchain, AI, and Sufism. Until then, be sure to download his ebook The Simplified Blockchain and stay tuned for updates on his upcoming spiritual tours.
